Chhorii 2 Review And Rating: The home is often considered the foundation where individuals learn about social norms, values and behaviours that shape their understanding of the world and prepare them for future roles in society. The latest movie Chhorii 2 explores the same. In the village, young boys are indoctrinated with a skewed understanding of gender roles, being taught that women are inferior. They're discouraged from interacting or empathising with girls, instead using terms like "Chhorii" to demean them. This early socialisation reinforces a damaging mindset, where girls are seen as less valuable and unworthy of respect. As a result, these boys grow up perpetuating a cycle of oppression.

Chhorii 2, starring Nushrratt Bharuccha, tackles the sensitive topic of female infanticide, a practice that has been prevalent in some communities for far too long. What sets Chhorii 2 apart from other films that address this issue is its unique approach to storytelling.

Chhorii 2: Review

Rating: 3/5

In Chhorii 2, the story picks up where the first part left off, with the main battle centered around protecting Ishani from the harsh societal norms. However, her mother Sakshi fails to shield her and Ishani falls prey to the evil forces that had been haunting her family. The dark presence takes her back to the village where it all began, a place steeped in superstition and patriarchal beliefs. The villagers believe that the Pradhan's happiness is crucial to the village's prosperity and if he's unhappy, everything will fall apart.

To ensure the Pradhan’s satisfaction, young girls between the ages of five and ten are forcibly pushed into early maturity by being made to consume Kadhaas—herbal concoctions intended to hasten their physical development. Once a girl begins her menstrual cycle, she is considered ready to be married to the Pradhan. This disturbing ritual is viewed as an important event, believed to influence the fate and progress of the entire village and its people.

Chhorii 2: Cast Performances

Nushrratt Bharuchha shines with her A1 acting skills. As a mother, she is determined to protect her daughter from being compromised for sick societal reasons. Portraying a mother fiercely determined to shield her daughter from a disturbing and unjust societal tradition, she commands every frame with intensity and conviction. One particularly gripping scene, where Rajveer arrives to claim her for a horrific ritual, stands out for its sheer impact. The chilling tension evokes goosebumps and leaves a lasting impression. Her portrayal in this moment alone is proof to her caliber as a quality actress, deserving of immense praise and a standing ovation.

Soha Ali Khan delivers a standout performance in Chhorii 2, effortlessly stepping into the complex role of Dasi Maa, the Pradhan’s favoured aide. Tasked with the dark responsibility of bringing young girls to the village and preparing them for marriage to the Pradhan. Given Soha’s naturally gentle demeanor, the role initially appeared to be challenging for her usual persona. However, she portrays it with remarkable finesse, bringing depth, nuance and authenticity to the character. Her performance is both haunting and compelling, leaving a strong impact throughout the film.

Gashmeer Mahajani delivers a compelling performance as a determined police officer tasked with protecting Nushrratt and her daughter Ishani. He brings intensity to his role, particularly in his confrontations with the villagers, showcasing his acting range.
