Malayalam industry is under scrutiny after the Hema Committee report released alleged assault case by Dileep in 2017, pointing at several instances of harassment and exploitation of women in the film industry. Numerous female actors have since come forward alleging sexual harassment by actors and technicians in the film industry. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan established a seven-member special team to investigate atrocities faced by women in the field. Now, several South celebrities have demanded strict punishment against the culprits.

South celebs react to sexual assault allegations on Malayalam industry

Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran addressed the media at his football club launch, discussing the Hema Committee report and other recent controversies in the Malayalam film industry. According to Onmanorama, the Aadujeevitham actor said, “The findings in the report should be treated very seriously. It is important to punish those who have committed sexual abuse. Those in positions of power should step aside while facing such allegations.” 

He went on to state, “My responsibility does not end with just ensuring that my movie location is safe, it is important that the entire industry is safe for people.”

Elaborating on the issues in the Malayalam film industry, Prithviraj Sukumaran acknowledged that some individuals within the industry may be engaging in organised efforts to ban those who speak out against them, and emphasised that action should be taken to address such behaviour.

'All Women Need To Feel Protected': Chiyaan Vikram

Chiyaan Vikram told news agency PTI, “All women need to feel protected. They should be able to walk the streets at 3.00 in the morning and feel they can walk, go home, and that nobody will do anything. That every man is there to protect them, to give them their space. It's disgusting what's happening.”

Prithviraj Sukumaran expressed his concern about women's safety and pondered if he could utilise his creativity to address this issue more effectively in his films, wondering if he could make a meaningful impact through his work.
