Choi Woo Shik and Park Bo Young are all set to bring a heartfelt romance to screens with their upcoming Netflix drama, Melo Movie. Ahead of its much-anticipated release, the lead actors shared insights about their roles and the emotional depth of the series at a press conference held in Jongno, Seoul, on February 12.

As per Soompi, Melo Movie follows the journey of four young individuals navigating love, dreams, and personal struggles. Choi Woo Shik takes on the role of Ko Gyeom, an aspiring actor-turned-film critic who instantly falls for Kim Mu Bee, played by Park Bo Young. Mu Bee, a film director, has a complicated relationship with cinema, shaped by her father, a cinephile who prioritized movies over family.

The drama is penned by Lee Na Eun, known for Our Beloved Summer, and directed by Oh Choong Hwan, the filmmaker behind hits like Castaway Diva, Big Mouth, and Hotel Del Luna. The cast also includes Lee Jun Young and Jeon So Nee, promising a well-rounded ensemble.

Choi Woo Shik, having previously worked with writer Lee Na Eun, expressed his excitement about the project. He shared, "I already knew how compelling her scripts are, so I was eager to be a part of this. The entire filming process felt like a journey of growth, and I was truly happy throughout."

For Park Bo Young, it was the depth of the story that drew her in. "I was captivated by the realistic love story and the dreams of young people. Since Woo Shik was cast before me, when I read the script, I kept picturing him as Gyeom—it felt so natural that I knew I had to take this role."

Addressing similarities between Ko Gyeom and his Our Beloved Summer character, Choi Woo Shik clarified, "While Choi Woong was introverted, Gyeom is outgoing and unafraid to seek help. If you think in MBTI terms, it's like the difference between ‘I’ and ‘E’. You’ll see a completely extroverted Gyeom in this drama."

The drama’s emotional core lies in the evolving relationship between Gyeom and Mu Bee. Choi Woo Shik described Gyeom as someone who falls in love at first sight and remains persistent in his pursuit, even through heartbreak and unexpected reunions. "He never gives up. If there’s even a sliver of hope, he’ll push forward, which made playing him dynamic and fun."

Park Bo Young, on the other hand, explained Mu Bee’s internal struggle. "She keeps pushing Gyeom away, but when he disappears, she starts feeling the weight of his absence. Instead of portraying someone who understands the other person’s perspective, I wanted to show a character who is completely selfish—who only thinks about her own emotions."

A major highlight of Melo Movie is the undeniable chemistry between the leads. Interestingly, Park Bo Young has previously worked with Choi Woo Shik’s close friends Park Seo Joon and Park Hyung Sik. When asked about their reaction, Choi Woo Shik shared, "They were all really excited. Not just my friends, but everyone kept saying how amazing she is—how talented, kind, and wonderful. And I completely understand why. She was a great support on set, even helping with my mental well-being."

Park Bo Young also appreciated working alongside someone her age. "Seo Joon and Hyung Sik both have their own strengths, but this was my first time acting with someone my age. It made things feel comfortable and natural. Woo Shik makes me feel at ease—he’s like my laugh button! He’s so lovely that you’d want to watch him whenever you need a mood boost."
