J. Robert Oppenheimer. A name that is soon going to be a popular one with Christopher Nolan's upcoming release featuring Cillian Murphy in the lead titular role. Oppenheimer doesn't ring a bell but is known as the father of the atomic bomb.

Set to be the protagonist of one of the biggest films of the year with one of the biggest Hollywood directors, what made this man so special? The life, work, and legacy of Oppenheimer deserve more than a screen jump.

Oppenheimer's leadership in the Manhattan Project, the top-secret operation to develop the atomic bomb before the Nazis, which then went on to be the most lethal creation is notable in itself. His post-World War II disgust for what he created was fierce and was an attempt to regulate a nuclear weapon.

Not just a man with intelligence, but his personality made him a star. An interesting but complicated figure, he flirted with his work and was volatile with his engagements. The man was not afraid to showcase his intelligence and used to dominate his class as a university student to the extent that his classmates would boycott and skip their classes, instead of facing him. However, he also struggled with depression and did some violent behavior towards some of his closest friends.

A brilliant mind with a scientific breakthrough that shattered the theories and implications of promoting a political uproar, Oppenheimer's life was full of material on which one could make installments of films. The difference between the other scientists and Oppenheimer was that others wanted to discover the past, he wanted to create a future.
