Citadel Spy Universe fans are excited as several spin-offs are gearing up for release. One such highly-anticipated series is Citadel: Honey Bunny, featuring Bollywood star Varun Dhawan and Tollywood icon Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The series, which marks the Indian chapter of Russo Brothers’ global spy universe, is already creating buzz, with fans eagerly awaiting its release.
In a recent chat with News18, Gina Gardini, the showrunner for Citadel: Diana, praised the chemistry between Varun and Samantha in Citadel: Honey Bunny. “Varun and Samantha are fantastic and have amazing chemistry. I think both of their roles are unexpected,” shared Gina. She added that watching them on-screen was a delight and complimented the show’s creators, Raj and DK, for crafting such unique characters.
Reflecting on the experience of meeting the actors during a press screening event in London, Gina further stated, “It was a lot of fun meeting all of them at the press screening. It was a Citadel global event. I’ve seen Citadel: Honey Bunny and was pleased to rewatch its first episode at the premiere. And I think it’s fantastic.” As per News18, the event witnessed the presence of Citadel, Citadel: Diana and Citadel: Honey Bunny teams, with photos of Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Matilda De Angelis posing together going viral.

Gina also shared her thoughts on the interconnected nature of the Citadel universe. “When the idea was initially pitched, I was like, ‘That’s so brilliant! Why hasn’t anyone done that in television?’ We have these interconnected films with different worlds outside of television. But transposing that concept into television was really exciting. I loved Citadel, but it was scary because having seen the mother show, we knew there were large expectations to meet.”
The Italian spin-off, Citadel: Diana, is headlined by Matilda De Angelis and is set to premiere on Prime Video on October 10. Set in Milan in 2030, the series revolves around an undercover Citadel agent trapped behind enemy lines as a mole in Manticore. The show features high-octane stunts, sophisticated spy gadgets, and adrenaline-fueled scenes, promising an enthralling experience for viewers.
The Russo Brothers are pleased with the way Citadel: Diana has turned out. Gina revealed that they supported the team in “embracing and investing in their cultural identity” while ensuring that the show retained the essence of an Italian production. She shared, “They helped us constantly hone our narratives while taking a very hands-off approach regarding the cultural specifics. That was really exciting and new.”
