Shashank Khaitan, the director of the 2018 hit film 'Dhadak', has expressed his excitement and best wishes for the upcoming sequel, 'Dhadak 2'. Set for a theatrical release on November 22, 2024, the film stars Tripti Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi and promises to carry forward the legacy of its predecessor with a powerful story about young love amidst caste differences.

In a recent conversation with News18, Khaitan shared his thoughts on the sequel, which he described as his "home territory." He was thrilled about the new cast and the bold reveal of the film. “I’m extremely happy. I’m sure that it’s going to be a very, very powerful story. I’m also excited about young actors coming up and telling social stories. I’m really looking forward to Dhadak 2. I think it was a very bold reveal in terms of how they announced the title and unveiled the actors,” he said.

'Dhadak', released in 2018, was a remake of the 2016 Marathi cult classic 'Sairat'. The film, written and directed by Khaitan, starred Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter in their debut roles. Despite mixed reviews and average box office performance, 'Dhadak' gained popularity for its music, composed by Ajay-Atul, and its poignant portrayal of a love story set against the backdrop of caste issues.

The sequel, 'Dhadak 2', is produced by Dharma Productions in collaboration with Zee Studios and Cloud 9 Pictures. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film is themed similarly to its predecessor, focusing on the struggles of two young lovers facing societal challenges. This spiritual sequel aims to capture the essence of the original while introducing new dimensions to the narrative.

Khaitan, who is currently busy with his upcoming project 'Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari', starring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf, revealed that he had discussed 'Dhadak 2' with Karan Johar. “Karan and I had a conversation about Dhadak 2. We operate from the same office and we see each other almost every day. But I haven’t had the chance to speak to the director yet because I’m keeping busy with my projects,” he added.

For Khaitan, 'Dhadak' holds a special place as it was a passion project. He expressed his heartfelt wishes to everyone involved in 'Dhadak 2'. “I’m sending my best wishes to everyone associated with the film. Dhadak is home territory for me. And to top that, it’s a Dharma film,” he said.

Janhvi Kapoor, who made her acting debut with Dhadak, recently shared her journey with Dharma Productions. She revealed that she was initially considered for another Dharma film and frequently visited Karan Johar’s office for acting exercises. “There was a conversation of me doing another Dharma film. I would go to his office once every week and he would give me a scene. Sharan (Sharma) was his AD at that point and Karan was working on Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Sharan’s job was to print out a scene every day from films like Jab We Met and Kapoor & Sons, among others, and give it to me. As homework, I had to learn it and come and audition for Karan although he never referred to it as an audition. I think he was just gauging me,” she said.
