Dhoomam On OTT: Malayalam-language action thriller film directed and written by Pawan Kumar is produced by Vijay Kiragandur under Hombale Films, marking their debut in Malayalam cinema, the movie stars Fahadh Faasil and Aparna Balamurali in lead roles, alongside Roshan Mathew, Vineeth, Anu Mohan, Achyuth Kumar, Joy Mathew, and Nandhu.
The narrative delves into the psychological aspects surrounding nicotine and tobacco consumption, shedding light on its detrimental effects on society while dissecting the psyche of tobacco industry players. It revolves around Avinash, the marketing head of a prominent tobacco corporation, who finds himself ensnared by an unknown adversary. Forced to fork over money to safeguard himself and his wife, Diya, Avinash's ordeal unfolds in a dual timeline. In the present, the couple faces relentless pursuit, while the past reveals Avinash's ascent within the company alongside his friend Siddhu.
Dhoomam: Release Date and Platform
Despite the much-anticipated collaboration between Pawan Kumar, Fahadh Faasil, and Hombale Films, 'Dhoomam' failed to meet expectations, receiving critical backlash and encountering delays in its OTT release. Eventually, the film made its debut on Apple TV under the Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD) model, rather than on more conventional platforms.
Nearly a year following its theatrical premiere, 'Dhoomam' is getting a second chance on OTT. In celebration of World No Tobacco Day on May 31, Hombale Films will showcase the film on their official YouTube channel.
About Dhooman
Dhoomam, Fahadh Faasil's ambitious project post starred Aparna Balamurali alongside him. Poornachandra Tejaswi composed the music, with Preeta Jayaraman as the cinematographer. Karthik Gowda and Vijay Subramaniam served as creative producers, with Renganaath Ravee handling sound design.
Chetan DSouza directed the action, and Joha Kabir managed fashion styling. Josmon George provided script advice, Babin Babu managed distribution, and Obscura Entertainment handled digital marketing.
Dhoomam serves as the debut project for director Pawan Kumar, composer Poornachandra Tejaswi, and production company Hombale Films in Malayalam cinema. The film premiered on 23 June 2023. Although Amazon Prime Video initially secured the post-theatrical streaming rights, its release on the platform, originally slated for 4 August 2023, was postponed due to the film's underwhelming reception. Subsequently, on 29 November 2023, the film was digitally released on the Apple TV app and iTunes.
