Veteran actor Rakesh Bedi, who is currently enjoying a massive career high with the blockbuster success of Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar franchise, has issued a formal public apology. The controversy began after the actor used the term 'Harijan' during a recent interview while discussing the legendary social reformer BR Ambedkar.

Why Did Rakesh Bedi Issue Public Apology Recently?

The issue gained traction when Kailash Jaiswar, the Mumbai State President of the Azad Samaj Party, shared a video criticising the Dhurandhar actor. Kailash Jaiswar pointed out that the term Harijan is considered inappropriate and its official use has been prohibited in India for several years. Following a direct conversation between Kailash Jaiswar and the actor, Rakesh Bedi agreed to release a video message to address the community's concerns.

In the apology video now circulating on social media, the Dhurandhar actor explained that his slip of the tongue was unintentional. He stated, "Namaskar friends, I am Rakesh Bedi. A few months ago, I posted a video in which I said that in our country, Bheem Rao Ambedkar ji worked a lot for Dalits, for Harijans and for people of backward society. He worked very hard for their upliftment. So now I have come to know that it is prohibited to use the word Harijan in our country. And I said it with a good intention that he worked very hard for Harijans and Dalits."

He further clarified, "But if my use of the word Harijan has offended a person or a society, then I apologise for that. I did not say it on purpose. I did not know that it was prohibited."
