Dia Mirza has been quite vocal about her personal life from the beginning of her career in Bollywood. The actress, who married for the second time to businessman Vaibhav Rekhi, recently shared some interesting aspects of her life. In an interview, Dia spoke about her stepdaughter Samaira, who is the daughter of Vaibhav Rekhi and Sunaina Rekhi. The diva revealed that her stepdaughter never calls her ‘maa’ rather she addresses Dia by her name. She also stated that even her son Avyaan calls her by name sometimes.
In an interview with News18, Dia said “She hasn’t called me maa. There is no expectations from her to call me ‘maa’, ‘mumma’ or ‘mother’. She has a mother who she calls ‘mumma’ or ‘mom’. She calls me ‘Dia’. Thanks to her now Avyaan also calls me ‘Dia’ once in a while. He says ‘Dia mom’, it’s too funny.”
She also recalled the first time her son called her ‘maa’. Dia added, “I was showing him butterflies (on the balcony) and I was through the plants because there were three to four butterflies for him to get a closer look at it. He suddenly looked at me and said, ‘Mumma’, I was like ‘Oh my god! What just happened.’ Interestingly, my husband had his camera and he was recording me showing Avyaan the butterflies so we have the whole moment on cameras. It was magical.”
Dia was earlier married to filmmaker Sahil Sangha for five years before they called off their marriage in 2019. The Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein actress later married businessman Vaibhav Rekhi in 2021. In the same year, the couple was blessed with their first child Avyaan.
Sharing the news of her child’s birth on Instagram, she wrote “To paraphrase Elizabeth Stone, "To have a child is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” These words perfectly exemplify Vaibhav & my feelings right now. Our heartbeat, our son Avyaan Azaad Rekhi was born on May 14th. Having arrived early, our little miracle has since then been cared for by tireless nurses and doctors in the Neonatal ICU.”
She continued, “A sudden appendectomy during my pregnancy and a subsequent and very severe bacterial infection could have led to sepsis and proven to be life threatening. Thankfully, the timely care and intervention by our doctor ensured the safe birth of our baby via an emergency C-section. As we watch this tiny being, this Zen master in awe and wonder, we learn from him, in all humility, the true meaning of trusting the universe and of parenthood. And to not be afraid, and so we humbly take the lead from his resilience and courage. We do not have enough words to thank all those who continue to help us live this story of hope and faith and create a safe, healing, nurturing space for Avyaan and I.”
“He will be home soon and his elder sister Samaira and grand parents are waiting to hold him in their arms. To our well-wishers and fans, I just want to say - your concern has always meant a lot to me and if it was possible to share this news before, we would have. Thank you all for all the love, light, faith and prayers. We extend them back to everyone who is struggling to hold on to hope right now or is praying for a loved one. We see you, we hear you and together, we will get past this time 💖🙏🏻💖 ~Dia & Vaibhav,” she added.
