The king of comedy, Kapil Sharma, during the star-studded ‘What’s Next on Netflix’ event held in Mumbai on Tuesday evening, took a cheeky swipe at the criminal elements that have allegedly been targeting him over the past year. Kapil was on stage alongside Monika Shergill, the Vice President of Content for Netflix India. While discussing their successful partnership, Shergill praised the comedian’s massive global reach. She jokingly remarked, "Hamari nazar, India ki nazar toh bahut time se aap par hai, Kapil. Hopefully, 11 mulko ki police ki nazar nahi hone chahiye." 

Without missing a beat, Kapil Sharma responded with a sharp comment that left the audience in splits, though it touched upon a very serious reality. He quipped, "Ek do mulkon ke gangster bhi lage hue hain aaj kal." The audience erupted in laughter, but Kapil quickly seemed to realise the weight of his words. Fearing the comment might be too sensitive for a public platform, he jokingly asked the videographers to ‘cut it out.’ However, upon remembering that the event was being broadcast live to millions of viewers, he laughed and asked the crowd how much more they intended to record.

Meanwhile, the ‘gangster’ reference was a clear nod to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. In 2025, Kapil and his wife, Ginni Chatrath, expanded their business ventures by opening Kap’s Cafe in Surrey, Canada. Reports indicate that shots were fired at the cafe three times in just four months, specifically in July, August, and October of last year. Associates of the Bishnoi gang, including individuals known as Goldy Dhillon and Kulveer Sidhu, reportedly claimed responsibility for the attacks on social media. They even went as far as warning the general public to stay away from the premises. In November 2024, Delhi Police made progress in the case by arresting Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon, a key conspirator linked to the Dhillon gang, in connection with the August shooting.
