Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer Happy New Year released in 2014 and it performed well at the Box Office. Deepika garnered a lot of praise for her quirky avatar in the movie and her dialogues were a point of discussion at that time. However, latest buzz is that Punjabi actor and social media sensation, Sonam Bajwa, also auditioned for Padukone's part in the film.

In a conversation with Mashable India, Bajwa said, "I didn’t have a car at that time. My mother was here for a few days and it was raining cats and dogs. They gave a scene for the audition. They gave me that scene ‘easy lagta hai Mohini ka dance’, and for dance, they asked me to perform on ‘Chikni Chameli’. I got an outfit ready for ‘Chikni Chameli’ and the clothes I was wearing, I was supposed to do my scene in those clothes."

The actor recalled that she and her mother were completely drenched by the time they reached the venue. "I was feeling so bad that my mother, with those wet clothes, she patiently waited for me to give my audition. That audition that day will always be so special for me. The only time my mom has ever accompanied me for an audition was for this one," said Sonam.

Although Bajwa never had a chance to see Happy New Year, she claimed that when she heard a line from the movie that Deepika had in it, she remembered it from her audition and claimed that it stuck out for her as well.

On the professional front, Sonam Bajwa has a slew of Punjabi films lined up in his kitty, including Godday Godday Cha and Carry on Jatta 3.
