Punjabi singer and actor, Diljit Dosanjh, is gearing up for the release of his upcoming highly-anticipated movie Amar Singh Chamkila. The film will release on OTT giant Netflix and will also star Parineeti Chopra. While Diljit will essay the role of the late rising star of Punjab, Chamkila, Parineeti will take on the role of his wife Amarjot. For the unversed, Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot were gunned down on March 8, 1988 when they arrived to perform at Mehsampur, Punjab. Now, in a recent interview, the ‘Do You Know’ crooner revealed that they filmed a scene at the same spot where Chamkila was shot dead.
Diljit Dosanjh Claims Feeling Chamkila's Entry On Set
During a conversation with Allahbadia, Dosanjh said, “I could feel Chamkila’s energy 100 percent on the set. We shot at the same place where Chamkila was killed. In the same place, Imtiaz sir shot that scene. Exactly at that point where he fell down after he was shot."
"I was holding a tumbi in my hand during the scene, and when I fell, the tumbi’s wire pricked my hand. And when I was falling, I could see my hand and drops of blood falling on the ground. I suddenly realised that this is the same spot where Chamkila’s blood must have also fallen," he further added.
Earlier, during the trailer launch of Chamkila, director Imtiaz Ali praised Diljit Dosanjh for his performance. He said, “In a small town of Punjab, when he was playing Chamkila, he himself didn’t know who he was. He thought he was Chamkila and because of that, I didn’t realise that he is Diljit Dosanjh. He was just Chamkila. Everyone on set felt the same, that this is unfolding in real time. Diljit wasn’t there. When someone does something like this, it becomes memorable.”
About Chamkila
The film revolves around the life of rising star of Punjab, Amar Singh Chamkila, who was shot dead at th age of 27. The movie is directed and co-produced by Imtiaz Ali, while the music has been given by music maestro A.R. Rahman.
