DYK Rajpal Yadav Once Fed 20–22 Struggling Actors: ‘Anybody Could Come And Eat…'

Rajpal Yadav recently turned himself in at Tihar Jail in connection with a cheque bounce case of Rs 9 crore. On February 12, the court directed the complainant to respond and postponed the bail hearing until the following week. Amidst this, a video featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui discussing how everyone used to be totally dependent on Rajpal during difficult times, is currently going viral on the internet.

Rajpal Yadav was the first to be given a project, Nawazuddin recalled. As a result, he and other struggling performers were dependent on the Bhool Bhulaiyaa actor.

"Rajpal Yadav started getting work almost immediately after he arrived. And I think, among the 20–22 of us actors, he was the one who got the most work. The rest of us barely had any. So whenever we discussed dinner plans, we’d say, 'let's go to Rajpal’s place - he’s earning'. At Rajpal's house, the stove would be lit in the morning, and cooking would continue till night. Five or six actors would be there, someone peeling onions, someone chopping vegetables," Nawazuddin Siddiqui said.

What Is The Issue Of Rajpal Yadav?

Rajpal Yadav has been embroiled in a court battle since 2010. After a string of check-dishonour cases, the Delhi High Court denied his last bid to avoid incarceration. He was instructed to turn himself in to the jail staff. The actor made an emotional statement to the media prior to turning himself in at Tihar Jail. "What should I do? I don’t have the money. I see no other option. Sir, I am all alone. There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own."

According to reports, Rajpal Yadav borrowed Rs 5 crore to fund Ata Pata Laapata, his first film as a director. He didn't repay the debt when the movie didn't do well at the box office. The total amount owed, including interest and penalties, had grown to Rs 9 crore over the years. 

Sonu Sood and Gurmeet Choudhary and others have stepped in to support the actor. His manager revealed that Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Varun Dhawan has also reached out.  The motion picture and television industry also urged to support the actor-comedian.
