New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: In yet another strong jolt of loss for the Film industry after the unforeseen demises of Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Wajid Khan, on Thursday, veteran filmmaker Basu Chatterjee passed away in Mumbai at the age of 93 due to age-related ailments. His last rites were performed in Mumbai's Santacruz on Thursday afternoon.
Widely admired for his middle of the movement films such as 'Rajnigandha', 'Chhoti si Baat', 'Chitchor', 'Khatta Meetha', 'Baaton Baaton mein', 'Ek Ruka Hua Faisla', 'Chameli ki shaadi' and Byomkesh Bakshi series among others -- Basu Chatterjee breathed last at his residence in Mumbai.
Indian Film & TV Directors’ Association president Ashoke Pandit took to Twitter and shared the news of Chatterjee's demise with the world.
"I am extremely grieved to inform you all the demise of Legendary Filmmaker Basu Chatterjee ji . His last rites will be performed today at Santacruz creamation at 2 pm. It’s a great loss to the industry. Will miss you Sir. #RIPBasuChaterjee," Ashoke Pandit wrote.

Filmmaker Boney Kapoor and actor Anil Kapoor also took to Twitter and expresses their condolences for the soul which left behind 'unique legacy of films' with a mix of humour and emotions.

The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also took to Twitter, and stated that she was saddened at the demise of legendary film director and screenwriter.

Born in Ajmer to Bengali parents, throughout 70s and 80s, Chatterjee worked in Hindi as well as Bengali cinema. Bestowed with seven Filmfare trophies during his several decades long career span, in 1992, Basu Chatterjee won National Award for his Family Welfare film 'Durga'. Basu Chatterjee is survived by daughters, Sonali Bhattacharya and Rupali Guha.
