Gadar 2 starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel has finally hit the theatres and fans have flocked in large quantities to watch the first day first show. The advanced box office collection of the film is proof enough that Sunny Deol is back with a bang with the sequel of his 2001 blockbuster movie Gadar. When the makers dropped the trailer of the film, other than the leading duo, another face that attracted much attention was actor Akash Dhar. He is seen as an Indian Army Major, Major Bhargav in the film who plays an important role in the journey of Tara Singh.
In an exclusive interview with Jagran English, Akash Dhar shared his experience of sharing the screen with Sunny Deol, working under his direction, expectations from Gadar 2, clash with Akshay Kumar starter OMG 2, and more.
You are playing an army officer in Gadar 2. How challenging was the part?
I am honored to don the role of an Indian Army Major, Major Bhargav in the film. It was quite challenging and scary at times as I did all my stunts on my own. However, after this experience, the admiration for the Army has gone up many notches high for the bravery and commitment they showcase sacrificing everything before the country. Truly selfless and inspiring.
Gadar is synonymous with Sunny Deol. How was your experience working with him? Did you take any tips for your role?
Working with Sunny Sir was fabulous. This was my second collaboration with him so I was not that nervous. He had directed me in Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas and hence, I shared a warm and lovely equation with him. All my action sequences are along with him and hence, got to learn a lot by just watching the man working. There was one particular shot in the chase sequence on the Army tank where in the rehearsal I drop the gun down forcefully to hand over the box of grenades to my team member. Sunny Sir suggested that I should not throw the gun but rather keep it down gently because no matter what the situation a soldier always respects his weapons. That was a great lesson.

Sunny Deol has been your director as well as a co-star now. What do you think is the difference between his two roles?
As a director, he is very calm and patient and explains the scene thoroughly as to what he wants you to do in the scene. Whereas as a co-actor in Gadar2, he just made me feel comfortable and allowed me to do my own thing guiding me in between keeping the vision of our director Mr. Anil Sharma in mind.
Gadar 2 is clashing with Akshay Kumar's OMG 2. Do you think it puts pressure on the star cast?
Firstly, both films are of different genres so one shouldn't compare the two. In the past, it happened with Gadar and Lagaan where both the films did well and recently with Oppenheimer and Barbie also running successfully. So I don't believe in clashes, only love for cinema. I am just thrilled to be a part of this Epic.
Why should people watch Gadar 2 over OMG 2?
Frankly, in my humble opinion, all films should do well. There is a lot of hard work that goes behind making a film with so many people involved. Having said that, being a part of Gadar 2, I would want as many people as possible to watch it for some mind-blowing action and drama.
Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar 2 has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Directed by Anil Sharma, the film is expected to set fire at the box office as it has reportedly sold 2.7 lakh tickets already for the first day.
