Nushrratt Bharuccha recently visited Ujjain’s Shri Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple to attend the sacred Bhasma Aarti ahead of the New Year 2026. Welcomed by temple priests and honoured with a traditional stole, her early-morning visit quickly went viral on social media. While many applauded her for expressing spiritual freedom, others sparked debate by questioning her presence at a Hindu temple due to her religious identity.

The controversy escalated after Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, criticised the actress for her temple visit. As reported by NDTV, he stated that offering prayers and applying sandalwood at a Hindu temple is considered a 'grave sin' under Sharia law, claiming it goes against Islamic principles and calling on her to repent and recite the Kalma.

Earlier, Nushrratt Bharuccha had openly spoken about her spiritual beliefs. In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra, she explained, "For me, my faith is real. Unreal things happen and that’s what strengthens my belief. That’s why I’m still connected, still strong, and I know I have to follow this path."

"Wherever you find peace, whether it’s in a mandir, a gurudwara, or a church, you should go there. I even say this openly: I pray namaz. If I get time, I pray five times a day. I even carry my prayer mat while travelling. Wherever I go, I find the same peace and calm. I’ve always believed there’s one God, and different paths to connect with Him. And I want to explore all those paths," Bharuccha further added.

On the work front, Nushrratt Bharuccha was most recently seen in the silent film Ufff Yeh Siyapaa, where she experimented with a unique format and showcased a different side of her acting. Looking ahead, the actor is gearing up for her next project, Bun Tikki, which is slated for release in 2026. The upcoming film is expected to mark another significant step in her career as she continues to explore diverse and unconventional roles.
