In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, India has taken strict actions against Pakistan, one of which includes banning the Instagram accounts of several Pakistani artists in the country. From Hania Aamir and Mahira Khan to Atif Aslam, many of their accounts have become unavailable to Indian viewers. Despite this, the craze for Hania among fans has not slowed down. They found ways, such as using VPNs, to reconnect with the actress on Instagram. After seeing such efforts, Hania responded to the love.
When Indian users attempt to access the Instagram handles of their favourite Pakistani actors it shows the message, “Account not available in India. This content has been restricted in response to a legal request.” Instead of giving up amid the restrictions, the Indian fans resorted to subscribing to VPN services. All this workaround for the digital reconnects with widely loved Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.
One comment grabbed Hani's attention and she reacted with love. The comment read, “Don’t worry, humne VPN subscription liya hai apke liye”. She replied, “ro doongi”.
Another comment read, "Hania VPN ka subscription liya sirf tumhare liye. Love from India. To this, Hania responded, “love you.”
Apart from Hania, other celebrities whose Instagram accounts have been banned in India are Ali Zafar, Sanam Saeed, Bilal Abbas, Iqra Aziz, Imran Abbas and Sajal Aly. Now, the list also includes Fawad Khan, Mawra Hocane and Atif Aslam. The Indian government have not only banned the Instagram accounts but also has 16 Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly spreading provocative and communally sensitive content.
India-Pakistan relations have taken a new turn following the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. In response to the escalating tensions, India has imposed new punitive measures, including the immediate suspension of mail and parcel exchanges with Pakistan by air and land/sea routes. Earlier measures include the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, cancellation of visas, and closing of trade, among many others.
