Babil Khan, the son of late actor Irrfan Khan, posted a video in which he broke down in tears and slammed Bollywood and several celebrities. He later deleted the video from his Instagram account. However, the video still went viral and left fans worried about his mental health, as he was seen crying and slurring in the clip. Amidst this, Babil's team has issued an official statement, clarifying that his video has been widely misinterpreted and taken out of context.
Babil Khan opened up about harassment he has experienced in the Hindi film industry. He called people in Bollywood fake after uploading the video and later removed it. He not only deleted the post but he has deactivated his Instagram account. Addressing the concern of his fans and clarifying the intent behind the video, Babil's team said in a statement, "Over the past few years, Babil Khan has earned immense love and appreciation for his work, as well as for his openness about his mental health journey. Like anyone else, Babil is allowed to have difficult days — and this was one of them."
They assured that the actor is safe. The statement stated, "We want to reassure all his well-wishers that he is safe and will be feeling better soon."
Talking about the viral clip, they added, "That said, a video of Babil has been widely misinterpreted and taken out of context. In the clip, Babil was sincerely acknowledging a few of his peers whom he believes are making meaningful contributions to the evolving landscape of Indian cinema. His mention of artists like Ananya Panday, Shanaya Kapoor, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Raghav Juyal, Adarsh Gourav, Arjun Kapoor, and Arijit Singh came from a place of genuine admiration — for their authenticity, passion, and efforts to restore credibility and heart in the industry. We respectfully urge media publications and the public to consider the full context of his words rather than drawing conclusions from fragmented video clips." The statement was shared by Babil's mom, Sutapa Sikdar on her Instagram story.
What did Babil Khan say in the viral video?
In the heartbreaking clip, he criticised celebrities including Ananya Panday, Arjun Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Adarsh Gourav among others. He was heard saying, “What I mean to say is that I just want you guys to know that there are people like Shanaya Kapoor, Ananya Panday, Arjun Kapoor, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Raghav Juyal, Adarsh Gourav and Arijit Singh. There are so many more names. Bollywood is so f*****. Bollywood is so screwed.”
Calling Bollywood fake, in another video, posted on Reddit, Babil shared, "Bollywood is the most fakest, fakest, fakest industry that I've ever ever been a part of. But there are few people that want Bollywood to be better (smiles)...I got to show to you so much more, so much more, so much more. I have so much more to give you..." Soon after his video went viral, fans showed their concern. Users wrote, "Something really bad has happened for someone to be so sad about it. And Babil seems like a softie who wouldn't be able to take the harsh reality of Bollywood. Even being a nepo kid himself, he is outcasted by the clans of the industry." Others found it seriously concerning.
