Director Hansal Mehta recently opened up about his experience working with actor Manoj Bajpayee on the 2000 comedy-drama 'Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!!'. The filmmaker mentioned that the actor was quite challenging to collaborate with during that time. He revealed in an interview that when he discusses it with Manoj now, the actor attributes it to his youthfulness back then. However, Hansal pointed out that he was also inexperienced at the time and was unaware of what was unfolding.

During a year-end roundtable organized by Cinema Express, Hansal Mehta emphasised his preference for working with individuals he shares a good rapport with. He highlighted that an actor doesn't necessarily have to be overtly expressive to leave a lasting impression. He cited Rajkumar Rao as an example, whom he started working with after being recommended by Anurag Kashyap and casting director Mukesh Chhabra. They have collaborated on six projects since then. "It’s about the connection that you feel. Manoj has major mood swings. We made Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!! in 2000, and he was a pain in that film," he said.

Hansal Mehta reminisced, stating, "But at heart, he’s a nice guy. He’s not a bad person. You get that vibe. When we were working together, I used to get very irritated. I would ask, ‘Manoj, why are you behaving like this?’ That was the time when Manoj would take the character and just go. I don’t know how he decided that the character should be irritable, but he thrust it on everyone. Everyone used to run away from him. Saurabh (Shukla) used to be like, ‘I went to speak to him and he was mean. What’s wrong with him?'"

'Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!!' is a Hindi comedy-drama film directed by Hansal Mehta, released in the year 2000. Starring Manoj alongside Tabu, Saurabh Shukla, and Aditya Srivastava, the film follows the story of a small-time crook who gets involved in smuggling and encounters various challenges amidst the chaos of the city. The movie was appreciated for its performances but didn't fare well commercially.
