India celebrates 'Teacher's Day' every year on September 5 to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the former President of India, scholar, philosopher, and Bharat Ratna recipient. Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping every student's life and making them into a better person. This unique bond between a teacher and students has been beautifully portrayed in several Indian films. Tamil cinema has shown different types of teachers in their movies and has also portrayed them as heroes and revolutionaries.

1. Master
'Master' revolves around an alcoholic professor, who gets enrolled to teach at a juvenile facility. Things take a dark turn when he clashes with a ruthless gangster, who uses the children to fulfill his evil plans. Directed and written by Lokesh Kangaraj, the movie stars Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles with Malavika Mohanan, Andrea Jeremiah, Arjun Das, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Gouri G. 'Vaathi' revolves around Bala, a Mathematics teacher, who tries to fight against people trying to turn education into a business. Written and directed by Venky Atluri, 'Vaathi' stars Dhanush in the lead role along with Samyukhta Menon, Samuthirakani, Tanikella Bharani and P Sai Kumar in supporting roles. The movie is streaming on Netflix.
3. Raatchasi
'Raatchasi' revolves around a dogged headmistress who goes against bureaucracy and corrupt officials as they try to ruin her government-run school. Directed by Syed Gowthamraj, the movie stars Jyothika in the lead role with Hareesh Peradi, Poornima Bhagyaraj, Sathyan, Nagineedu, and Aruldoss in supporting roles. It is streaming on Prime Video.
4. Peranmai
'Peranmai' revolves around Dhuruvan, a forest ranger, who is assigned to train five girls from the NCC camp. Things take a dangerous turn when the group finds out about a terrorist activity being carried out in the forest and tries to defeat them. Starring Jayam Ravi and Roland Kickinger in the lead roles, 'Peranmai' is loosely based on the 1972 Soviet movie 'The Dawns Here Are Quiet'. It is streaming on Prime Video and is available on YouTube.
5. Vaagai Sooda Vaa
'Vaagai Sooda Vaa' revolves around Veluthambi, who aspires to have a government job but later starts teaching poor children in a village. He learns that the poor children are used as bonded labourers and decides to bring a change. It stars Vimal and Ineya in the lead roles with Bhagyaraj, Ponvannan and Thambi Ramaiah in supporting roles. It is streaming on Prime Video.
