In the Netflix series 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,' is gaining widespread acclaim from both fans and critics. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, actor Jason Shah took on the role of Alistair Cartwright, a menacing British police officer. Throughout the series, Jason's character engages in intense conflicts with Manisha Koirala's Mallikajaan. This series boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Manisha, Richa Chadha, and Aditi Rao Hydari. Recently, Jason discussed the intricate process of filming this sensitive moment, stressing the importance of meticulous planning and precision, especially when performing physical actions like slapping Mallikajaan.
Their rivalry culminates in a disturbing scene involving sexual and physical assault. Speaking about the scene, Jason told Filmibeat OTT, "I was hesitant. The fighter master wanted me slap her in a more realistic manner but I was very careful, I was watching my actions. I even flicked her nose ring off in one scene, it got that close. That’s what I was telling the fight master that if we are not in coordination, I might end up hurting her, and obviously, she is an older woman, so it is my responsibility and I had to take care."
In the web series, there is a scene where Mr. Cartwright, portrayed by Jason Shah, orders Mallikajaan to disrobe and perform in front of British police officers. This particular moment is unsettling as it illustrates a mother's anguish as she resorts to demeaning herself in an attempt to protect her youngest daughter, Alamzeb, from imprisonment.
