On Monday, OTT giant Netflix finally announced Season 2 of popular Indian web series, Heeramandi. Season 1 dominated Netflix ratings as it was hailed for both its content and casting. Fans praised the grand sets, intriguing storyline, and strong performances, especially Aditi Rao Hydari as Bibbojaan, with many rewatching her Gajagamini walk. However, some criticised Sharmin Segal's portrayal of Alamzeb. Despite this, the announcement of Heeramandi's second season today was widely celebrated online, with fans also sharing their special requests to not add Segal in the casting.

A fan wrote in the comments section, “Petition to not cast Sharmin as Alamzeb,” another one wrote, “Ufff amazing. Just don't do it with Sharmin that's all,” a fan commented, “Just remove Alam's character or replace Sharmin,” another one commented, “We want Alamzeb to die in the first scene of the first episode,” others also dropped similar comments.

In the comments, some viewers also urged the creators to keep Aditi Rao Hydari while others called for Sharmin Segal's removal. One user suggested, “Can we swap Sharmin's character with Bibbojaan so that Aditi can be Alamzeb”, while another commented, “It won’t be the same without Aditi Rao Hydari, but it will at least be better without Sharmin Segal.”

‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ is a 2024 Indian period drama TV series by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It follows the lives of courtesans in Heera Mandi, Lahore, during India's fight for independence. The cast includes Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal Mehta, and Taha Shah Badussha.

Between April 29 and May 5, 2024, Heeramandi became the second most popular non-English show on Netflix worldwide. It garnered 4.5 million views and accumulated 33 million viewing hours in its debut week, setting a new record for the most-viewed Indian series during its initial week of release. The series trended as number one in 10 countries and ranked among the top ten most-watched shows in 43 countries.
