Hera Pheri Re-Release: Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty starrer Hera Pheri is one of Bollywood's cult classics, filled with humour, punchlines and fun action. Released in 2000, the film will celebrate its 25th anniversary later this month on March 31. Amid the ongoing trend of re-releases, fans are eagerly waiting for this beloved comedy-action movie to return to theatres. In response to this demand, the film's producer, Firoz A. Nadiadwala, shared his thoughts and plans for the film's theatrical re-run.
Reacting to Hera Pheri's re-release demand, producer Firoz A. Nadiadwala revealed in a conversation with Bollywood Hungama that he can't make this decision alone. He said, "This is a decision I’ll not take alone. On paper, I am the owner of the film, but morally, Akshay ji, Paresh ji, and Suniel ji also own the film as much. So, we’ll jointly take the decision."
Confident that the film will create waves at the box office whenever it is re-released, the producer added, “I am sure whenever we re-release it, it’ll lead to a storm at the box office. The fascinating thing is that it’s been 19 years since Phir Hera Pheri (2006) was released and 25 years since Hera Pheri was released. Yet, we have not made any conscious effort or given any monetary effort to keep it alive. Yeh apne aap hua hai!”
Since its release, the Hera Pheri franchise has become a trendsetter for memes. Netizens often share and re-share the film's dialogues and images to resonate with various situations.
Talking about the ongoing craze and response, Firoz A. Nadiadwala credited all this appreciation to the screenplay writer Neeraj Vora. He added, "It all happened due to the innocence aided by the witty and humorous dialogues of Neeraj ji. What we all learned from him is that what you are saying is definitely important, but how you’re saying it is more important. Neeraj taught us and the film industry this valuable lesson."
About Hera Pheri Franchise
The film’s plot revolves around three individuals—Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Suniel Shetty), and Baburao (Paresh Rawal)—who, in their greed to earn money, get caught in an accidental kidnapping scheme that goes out of their control. Their comic timing and the film’s catchy dialogue have helped it achieve cult classic status. The original Hera Pheri performed well at the box office and received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences. This success led the makers to create a sequel, Phir Hera Pheri, which released in 2006. The film continues the story of the three main characters with new twists and additional cast members. The film's popularity has sparked demand for more sequels and adaptations. The makers are set to release a third installment soon, with Hera Pheri 3 directed by Priyadarshan.
If Hera Pheri returns to the silver screen, it will surely be a treat for cine-lovers.
