Hrithik Roshan, at the trailer launch of Netflix’s upcoming docu-series, The Roshans candidly shared his apprehensions about the re-release of his debut film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. The iconic film, which celebrates its 25th anniversary, will be re-released on January 10, coinciding with Hrithik’s birthday.
Reflecting on his debut, Hrithik admitted feeling nervous about how the film would be received today. “I am so afraid the film is releasing again. People will go tomorrow after 25 years and think, arre yaar, pachis saal pehle hum kya soch rahe the, aisa kuch nahi hai (what were we thinking twenty-five years ago, it’s nothing as we remember),” he said, jokingly expressing his fears.
Recalling a memorable scene from the film, Hrithik revealed the challenge he faced while filming the song Pyaar Ki Kashti Mein. He was informed just a day before the shoot that he would need to ‘play’ the guitar. Not knowing how to play the instrument, Hrithik spent the entire night practising finger movements, imagining the sound of the guitar to make it look convincing on screen.
“I went absolutely nuts,” he admitted. Despite his efforts, Hrithik humorously shared that his son, who plays music, later pointed out that he had been playing the wrong notes in the scene.
Released on January 14, 2000, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai turned Hrithik Roshan into a superstar overnight. Directed by his father, Rakesh Roshan, and featuring music composed by his uncle, Rajesh Roshan, the film’s soundtrack became a massive hit. Songs like Na Tum Jano Na Hum, Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukara and Ek Pal Ka Jeena are still cherished by fans.
The film was a box-office sensation, becoming the second-highest-grossing movie of 2000, just behind Mohabbatein. Its re-release offers fans a chance to relive the magic that launched Hrithik’s career.
The Netflix docu-series The Roshans, set to premiere on January 17, will delve into the life and stardom of the Roshan family. The four-part series will highlight the journey of Roshan Lal, Rajesh Roshan, Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik Roshan, offering fans an intimate look into one of Bollywood’s most celebrated families.
