Kapil Sharma is one of the biggest comedians in the country, who has a massive fan following. For over a decade now, the star has been running his own show on television and on OTT. But Kapil has rarely been seen talking about his personal life, especially about his late father. For those who are unaware, Kapil’s father, Jeetendra Kumar Punj, was a head constable in the Punjab police. He passed away in 2004 after suffering from seven years of cancer. Recently, in an interview, the actor talked about his dad and shared that it was his father’s dream to make him an artist.

As quoted by ETimes, Kapil, in a candid chat on his cousin’s podcast, said, “I have seen my father working so hard. And the Police force is such a thankless job. We barely went out as a family, neither have we celebrated festivals because he wouldn’t have any offs for us. It has been in Mumbai, where I saw that we have family dinners, weekends and all. So I realised that I would do something that makes me enjoy my job. I need to be passionate about it. And talking about focus, I had no other choice. My dad had a government job and getting one such job is difficult.”

“My dream of becoming an artist wasn’t just mine. It was my father’s dream that I made it come true. When he came to my first theatre play, he showed me some pictures of him where he revealed that he even used to do theatre plays as well and I had no idea about it. Whenever I would tell him about my plays and group songs, he would get really happy. He never told me about it but then when he shared about it I feel, it’s their dreams that I have fulfilled,” he added.

On the working front, Kapil Sharma is back with another season of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The third season of the show is slated to release on Netflix on June 21. It also features Sunil Grover, Kiku Sharda, Krushna Abhishek and Archana Puran Singh.
