Director Imtiaz Ali has shed light on the unique approach to music in his upcoming film Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra. The film, set to release on Netflix on April 12, features the actors singing live on location, a departure from the traditional method of playback singing in a studio. He has also mentioned the real reason behind the actors’ cast.
In a conversation with News18, Imtiaz Ali emphasized the importance of casting actors who are also singers for the film. He praised Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra for their live singing performances, stating, "It was mandatory for me to cast actors who are singers as well. It was important for them to sing live. The album of Chamkila features melodies composed by the late Punjabi folk artist Amar Singh Chamkila, as well as compositions by AR Rahman. This collaboration marks their fourth project together after Rockstar, Highway, and Tamasha.
Imtiaz Ali also revealed the rigorous practice sessions undertaken by Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra before filming, including jam sessions with AR Rahman.
