Independence Day is around the corner and over the years, Hindi cinema has done an excellent job of portraying real-life heroic events of soldiers and freedom fighters. These movies have managed to awaken the feeling of patriotism inside the hearts of cine-goers. Several Bollywood actors have also delivered their iconic and memorable performances in these movies and brought those historical events to life.

Ahead of Independence Day 2023, take a look at the list of Bollywood movies based on true heroic and historic events.

1. LOC Kargil

'LOC Kargil' is based on the Kargil War fought between India and Pakistan in 1999. Starring Mohnish Bahl, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna and Manoj Bajpayee, among others, the movie is streaming on Prime Video.

2. Border

'Border' is based on the real-life events that happened during the Battle of Longewala in 1971. The movie stars Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry and Puneet Issar in the lead roles. It is streaming on Prime Video.

3. Raazi

Starring Alia Bhatt in the lead role, 'Raazi' revolves around Sehmat Khan, who is an undercover RAW agent and gets married into a Pakistani family by her father to attain some valuable information about the enemy before the Indian-Pakistan Awar of 1971. It is based on Harinder Sikka's 2008 novel Calling Sehmat, which is a true account of a RAW agent. The movie also stars Vicky Kaushal, Rajit Kapur, Shishir Sharma, and Jaideep Ahlawat in supporting roles and is streaming on Prime Video.

4. Kesari

'Kesari' follows the events leading to the Battle of Saragarhi, where 21 Jat Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment of the British Indian Army fought with 10,000 Afridi and Orakzai Pashtun tribesmen in 1897. The movie stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role with Parineeti Chopra, Vikram Singh Chauhan, Sarwar, Vansh Bhardwaj, Jaspreet Singh, Vivek Saini, Vikram Kochhar, and Rakesh Sharma in supporting roles. It is streaming on Prime Video.

5. Shershaah

'Shershaah' is based on the life of Vikram Batra, who died in the Kargil War. Directed by Vishnuvardhan, the movie stars Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in the lead roles. It is streaming on Prime Video.

6. Sardar Udham

'Sardar Udham' stars Vicky Kaushal in the titular role with Shaun Scott, Stephen Hogan, Amol Parashar, Banita Sandhu and Kirsty Averton in supporting roles. The movie is based on the life of Udham Singh, a freedom fighter from Punjab who assassinated Michael O'Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It is streaming on Prime Video.
