Nazdeekiyan: Streaming giant Prime Video recently unveiled its highly anticipated 2026 slate, and one project has immediately caught the eye of Bollywood enthusiasts. Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, the upcoming series titled Nazdeekiyan is already generating significant buzz for its familiar emotional core.
The series, which stars Taha Shah Badussha and Nikita Dutta, explores the complex intertwining lives of two couples. According to reports from Mid-Day, Johar may have looked back at his own filmography for inspiration, as insiders suggest the show is heavily influenced by his 2006 star-studded directorial, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.
While the original film, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, and Abhishek Bachchan, was considered highly controversial upon its release, its exploration of marital dissatisfaction has gained a following over the decades. Reports revealed, "The series is a contemporary take on infidelity. ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, though controversial at the time, aged well, with generations resonating with the four leads' conflict. The team at Dharmatic was keen to revisit the idea, and from there, the story for ‘Nazdeekiyan’ was fleshed out."
The 2006 film famously dealt with two individuals finding a soulmate in each other while being married to different people. Nazdeekiyan aims to bring this "DNA" into the modern era, reflecting how relationships and the concept of loyalty have evolved in 2026.
Despite the shared themes of duty and desire, fans should not expect a scene-by-scene remake of the Bollywood classic. The series, directed by Ruchir Arun, is planned as a sprawling 20-episode drama that provides more room for character development than a standard feature film. Another report clarified the distinction between the two projects, stating, "The DNA is similar, but the situations and settings of the four leads here are different."
