Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal is still making headlines even after it was released months ago. Critics and audiences have slammed the movie for its aggressive action sequences and 'misogynistic approach'. There were many memes made on the social media platforms in connection to the film. Netizens even termed Ranbir Kapoor’s character Rannvijay Singh as a ‘toxic man’ and a ‘red flag’ online. Recently, the film’s producer Bhushan Kumar shared that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has problems with online trolling and criticism.

In an interview with Zoom, Bhushan Kumar was asked about his views on memes and social media reactions regarding the movie. He said “Absolutely! Sometimes my director is not [okay], he replies too much and I keep explaining to him, ‘Don’t bother. It's benefitting our film only.' See all said and done, it has become a cult film. Everybody is waiting for part 2. We've done ₹900 crores of gross all over the world, so it's humungous. People want to talk, let them talk; that doesn't bother us.”

Celebrities like Manoj Bajpayee and Anurag Kashyap came in support of the movie. Earlier in a chat with Pinkvilla, Manoj Bajpayee said “I am very clear if many people disagree or don’t like a film, what’s wrong with that? The film is released, does its business, and moves on. The money goes into the producer’s pocket; let them take it; they invested in the movie. If you don’t want to watch it, then don’t. If you disagree with something, it’s better not to watch it, but don’t create trouble for the movie. You will be only encouraging a bad notion by doing so, what if others hinder your work in the same way? There should be open discourse without calls for bans or protests.”

On the other hand, Anurag Kashyap said to Aaliyah Kashyap on her podcast Young, Dumb & Anxious, “This man (Sandeep), what you see is what he is. People may like Animal, they may not like Animal, but Animal is a major tectonic shift in the way films will be made. People will realise its impact in 5-10 years from now. Post Animal, every action movie looks fake. When you see, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (Starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff), all those flips and fighting, it all looks fake because somehow the action in that film (Animal) and the use of music in that film had an impact, the technical details in the film had an impact on the audience. That will forever impact cinema.”

Animal also stars Tripti Dimri, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Anil Kapoor in key roles. Its sequel Animal Park is currently in the writing stage and is expected to go on floors in 2025.
