IU and Park Bo Gum have taken the internet by storm with their heartfelt performances in Netflix's When Life Gives You Tangerines. Their on-screen chemistry as O Ae Sun and Yang Gwan Sik has captivated viewers, making their romance a highlight of the show. One particular scene that generated major buzz was their first kiss, which they recently opened up about in an interview.

Set in a picturesque grassy field, IU and Park Bo Gum's first on-screen kiss was a sweet yet slightly awkward moment that resonated with fans. IU, in a conversation with Teen Vogue, revealed that every tiny detail of the scene was meticulously planned. She shared, "That particular scene is written down to every little detail in the script. There actually was a line that said, 'You see a fist that trembles.' So we just really tried to stay as loyal to everything that was written in the script as possible."

Park Bo Gum also noted how even the kiss itself, including the moment where his character kisses IU’s upper lip, was scripted in advance. "That detail was also already written in the script. So we tried to stay as loyal as possible to what was written by the writer," he explained.

Beyond their on-screen romance, IU and Park Bo Gum have been friends for 13 years. Their first meeting was during a commercial shoot, and they later reunited when Park Bo Gum made a special appearance in IU’s drama The Producers. Now in their 30s, their longstanding friendship played a key role in creating natural and effortless chemistry in When Life Gives You Tangerines.

Park Bo Gum acknowledged how comfortable they felt around each other on set, saying, "We felt very comfortable around each other. I almost wish we had spent more time together. We had a great time on set, and I hope to collaborate with you again, especially now that time has passed and I can look back on it."

Meanwhile, IU humorously admitted that she was taken aback when she first learned that Park Bo Gum would play Yang Gwan Sik. She jokingly questioned, "Is it okay for him to be that good-looking?" She added that anyone in Jeju Island would instantly fall for his charm.

The popularity of When Life Gives You Tangerines continues to soar, with the show receiving widespread praise from audiences worldwide. Currently in its fourth volume, the series is set to conclude on March 28, 2025. The story beautifully portrays the intertwined lives of Yang Gwan Sik and O Ae Sun as they navigate their emotions and relationships.

IU and Park Bo Gum have also dominated this week's Good Data Corporation rankings, which now include OTT dramas. IU secured the top spot as the most buzzworthy South Korean actor, followed by Park Bo Gum at No. 2.
