One of the most iconic scenes in Bollywood history is Shah Rukh Khan’s dramatic entry in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G), directed by Karan Johar. The scene, where Shah Rukh arrives in a helicopter, is etched in fans' memories as the ultimate grand entrance, adding to the superstar’s charismatic portrayal of Rahul, the beloved son of the Raichand family. However, according to filmmaker Nikkhil Advani, Shah Rukh wasn’t entirely satisfied with how this scene turned out.
During a recent conversation on the podcast Cyrus Says, Advani revealed that Shah Rukh initially imagined a more action-packed helicopter scene. He thought he would jump out of the chopper, making a high-energy entrance to match the gravity of his character’s return to his family. However, the actual direction required him simply to step down from the helicopter, which left him feeling a bit let down. The scene, as it played out, was more about his on-screen mother’s instinctive reaction. Jaya Bachchan’s character senses his arrival the moment he touches the ground—a deeply emotional element that became a focal point of the scene.
Advani also discussed another memorable Shah Rukh Khan scene from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, where the actor treated the basketball sequence as if it were an action scene, choreographing it himself. In both Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Shah Rukh received credits for “thrills” in the opening sequence of each film due to his creative contributions.
In Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Shah Rukh’s character Rahul is a passionate and caring son who faces intense family conflict. His father, played by Amitabh Bachchan, disapproves of his relationship with Anjali (Kajol), a girl from a less privileged background, leading to a family rift that forms the emotional crux of the film.
On the professional front, Shah Rukh Khan has an exciting lineup ahead, including King, directed by Sujoy Ghosh. This film marks a special collaboration, as Shah Rukh will be sharing the screen with his daughter, Suhana Khan, for the first time. He will play the role of a skilled assassin protecting Suhana’s character, a young girl who has lost her family.
