About Kalki 2898 AD

Kalki 2898 AD is an upcoming Indian sci-fi action film set in the year 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by C. Aswani Dutt under Vyjayanthi Movies. The movie stars Prabhas along with Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, Disha Patani, and Brahmanandam.

The movie draws inspiration from Hindu scriptures and depicts a post-apocalyptic world. Initially delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, filming took place from July 2021 to March 2024, primarily at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. With a production budget of Rs 600 crore (US$72 million), it's India's most expensive film. Scheduled for release on 27 June 2024, it will debut in IMAX, 3D, and other formats, marking the beginning of the Kalki Cinematic Universe.

Kalki 2898 AD is set in a distant future where the city of Kasi endures in a desertified world under the oppressive rule of Supreme Yaskin's totalitarian regime. The city is overshadowed by the Complex, a massive floating structure resembling an inverted pyramid. Blending Indian mythology with a dystopian setting, the story spans millennia, starting from the events of the Mahabharata in 3102 BC, marking the beginning of Kali Yuga, and extending to the futuristic year of 2898 AD. At the heart of the narrative is the mysterious figure of Kalki, regarded as the tenth and final avatar of Vishnu, around whom the story unfolds.
