The movie is set in 2898 AD in the city of Kasi, which is now ruled by god-king Supreme Yaskin. 'Kalki 2898 AD' mixes mythology and science fiction and revolves around the Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of Lord Vishnu.

In a new interview with Deadline, Prabhas talked about 'Kalki 2898 AD' and what the audience can expect from the movie. He said, "The whole film is made for international [audiences]. That’s why it’s the highest budget and we’ve got the best actors in the country.”

He added, "We were hearing for the first time people calling me ‘pan-Indian’. That doesn’t really affect me but it’s a good feeling to think that people around the country like me now.”

Prabhas will be seen in Bhairava, whereas, Amitabh Bachchan will be seen as Ashwatthama. For the unversed, Ashwatthama has been mentioned in the epic Mahabharata. Ashwatthama is the son of Dronacharya and Kripi and is believed to be the fifth avatar of Lord Shiva. According to the Mahabharata, Ashwatthama’s name means “the sacred voice, similar to that of a horse.” He is named so because he cried like a horse at the time of his birth.

'Kalki 2898 AD' also stars Kamal Haasan as the antagonist and Disha Patani, and Brahmanandam will be seen in pivotal roles. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the movie will release in theatres on June 27.
