Kangana Ranaut criticized Twinkle Khanna for her remarks comparing men to plastic bags. She took to her Instagram Stories to share a video clip of Twinkle's comments, where she humorously equated having a man in a woman's life to owning a handbag. Kangana expressed her disapproval of the joke, labeling Akshay Kumar's wife as a 'privileged brat' and questioning her understanding of feminism.
Twinkle, during an event in December, made a joke about embracing feminism and shared her perspective on men, even likening them to plastic bags. To this, Kangana expressed her clear disapproval and wrote, "What are these privileged brats who call their men polythene bags, are they trying to be cool? Nepo kids born with silver spoon, given film careers on golden platters, couldn’t do justice to that for sure, least they could do find some joy and fulfilment in selflessness of motherhood that also seems like a curse in their case what exactly do they want to be? Vegetables? Is that feminism?" Twinkle Khanna has not responded to Kangana's criticism yet.
What Twinkle said?
During an earlier interview, Twinkle was questioned about her realisation of being a feminist. In her response, she shared that her path to this realisation unfolded in reverse. the actress-author recounted that it was her mother-veteran actress Dimple Kapadia, who instilled in her the notion during her formative years that women are independent and don't necessarily require men.
Twinkle had said, "We never spoke about feminism or equality or anything. But it was very clear that there was absolutely no need for a man. It would be very nice to have a man, like you would have a nice handbag. But even if you had a plastic bag it would do," she said, adding, "So I grew up with that notion and for a long time I felt that there wasn't much use for them."
Further she stressed, "They lose their hair, start wrapping the four strands, round and round, on their heads. Luckily for most women, they die 10-15 years before us. You have to feel a little sorry for them also. So I had to walk backwards that perhaps we (women) are not superior but we are sort of equals. That has been my journey to feminism."
For those unversed, Twinkle is the daughter of yesteryear superstar Rajesh Khanna. She ventured into acting, appearing alongside Shah Rukh Khan in 'Baadshah' in 1999. Following her marriage to Akshay Kumar, she shifted her focus to writing and stepped away from acting.
