The Supreme Court on January 8 revoked the Gujarat Court’s order to release the 11 convicts who raped Bilkis Bano and were responsible for killing her family during the  2002 communal riots in the state. Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut on January 9, took to X and answered a fan’s query asking whether or not she would consider making a movie on the case.

The actor in a long reply wrote, “I want to make that story I have the script ready, researched and worked on it for three years but @netflix, @amazonIN and other studios wrote back to me that they have clear guidelines they don’t do so-called politically motivated films, @JioCinema said we don’t work with Kangana because she supports BJP and Zee is going through a merger, what are my options?

The actor who is also a producer and director (co-directed the 2019 film ‘Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi’), claimed that she has a script ready for a film based on research and hard work of three years but is getting no support from major OTT giants such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. The ‘Queen’ actor further mentioned that these OTT streaming platforms have refused to accept such ‘politically motivated’ films.

The actor's reply came after a user on X asked, “Dear@KanganaTeam Mam. Your passion for#WomenEmpowerment is SO encouraging! Would you be interested in telling the story of #BilkisBano with a powerful movie? Will you? You will be able to show the world, how a state government with some terrorist outfit unleashed terror on a particular community. It resulted in the rape of a woman and the death of her toddler daughter along with six others from the family. You can show, how Bilkis fought against the corrupt system when the men responsible were released unlawfully and garlanded in a sic society. And how she won today. Will you do it for #BilkisBano, #Feminism or at least #Humanity?"

Kangana was last seen in the 2023 film 'Tejas' and is gearing up for the release of her self-directed movie 'Emergency' in which she plays India's only woman prime minister Indira Gandhi.
