Mammootty is back on the big screen with his crime thriller film 'Kannur Squad' and it has been receiving appreciation from the audience for keeping them on the edge of the seat. The movie has been performing average at the box office despite the buzz around it. Apart from Mammootty, the movie also stars Vijayaraghavan, Kishore, Rony David, Shabareesh Varma and Azees Nedumangad in pivotal roles. 'Kannur Squad' revolves around a police officer and his team trying to catch a criminal gang in India.
Kannur Squad Box Office Collection:
According to the website Sacnilk, 'Kannur Squad' collected Rs 2.50 crore on day 2 as per early estimate and it collected Rs 2.20 crore on its opening day. Its total box office collection now stands at Rs 4.70 crore approximately.
Kannur Squad OTT Release:
According to OTTplay, the OTT rights of 'Kannur Squad' have been bought by SonyLiv for a huge price.
In an interview with Mathrubhumi, writer Rony David Raj revealed that Mammootty was not the original choice for 'Kannur Squad'.
“Before we narrated the story to Mammukka, we had approached someone else. That time, we felt that the entire story had a documentary vibe to it and so, we decided to change the second half. Consequently, the movie’s scale also increased. Then we had to have a better performer who had to pull this off,” he said.
On the work front, Mammootty was last seen in 'Christopher' along with Vinay Rai, Sneha, Amala Paul, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Aditi Ravi.
He will next star in 'Kaathal - The Core' along with Jyotika in the lead role. The official release date of the film has not been announced yet.
