Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar is upset with the makers of Shaadi ke Director Karan aur Johar as they used his name without his consent. He moved the Bombay High Court against the makers of the film and requested to prevent his name from being in the film’s title. His plea to the court asked for an urgent stay on the movie’s release, which is scheduled to be released in theatres on 14th June. The bench agreed to hear the plea today.
Karan’s petition to the court seeks a permanent injunction and restraining order against the film’s producers IndiaPride Advisory and Sanjay Singh and writer and director Bablu Singh for using his name in the title. He claimed that he had no connection with the movie and its makers, who unlawfully used his name. Further, Johar also said that the film’s title directly shows his name which violates his personal rights, rights to publicity and privacy. He also stated that by using his ‘brand name’ without his consent, the makers of Shaadi ke Director Karan aur Johar are exploiting his goodwill and reputation.
The suit stated, “These trailers and posters have caused and are continuing to cause irreparable loss and damage to the goodwill and reputation of Johar. Further, such a release of the film with the title containing his brand name 'Karan Johar,' together or in parts, will cause irreparable loss and damage to the goodwill and reputation which he has gained after investing huge amounts of time, effort, and money.”
On the work front, Karan Johar is producing Kill, which is scheduled to be released in theatres on 5th July. Directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, the movie stars Lakshya, Raghav Juyal & Tanya Maniktala in significant roles.
