Renowned global singer Katy Perry is all set to make history as she will be joining Blue Origin’s upcoming NS-31 mission. It will feature all female crew abroad in the new Shepard spacecraft. While giving a statement through Blue Origin, Perry said “I hope my journey inspires my daughter and others to reach for the stars, literally and figuratively.” The mission is led by Jeff Bezos’s fiancee Lauren Sanchez, who played a vital role in assembling the crew. Along with Katy Perry, other renowned personalities like CBS anchor Gayle King, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe will be in the spacraft.
The singer also shared the exciting news with her fans on Instagram. She wrote, “If you had told me that I would be part of the first ever all-female crew in space, I would have believed you. Nothing was beyond my imagination as a child. Although we didn’t grow up with much, I never stopped looking at the world with hopeful WONDER! I work hard to live my life that way still, and I am motivated more than ever to be an example for my daughter that women should take up space (pun intended). That’s why this opportunity is so incredible — so that I can show all of the youngest & most vulnerable among us to reach for the stars, literally and figuratively. I am honored to be among this diverse group of celestial sisters.”
The flight is scheduled for spring this year and it will be the eleventh human launch for Blue Origin’s program. This time it's also special because it will be aboraded by the first all-women astronaut team. In 1963, Valentina Tereshkova pioneered a solo mission.
Notably, Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket will give passengers the experience of approximately four minutes of weightlessness while they enjoy the view of the Earth from above the Karman line, which is recognised as the space boundary.
