Kho Gaye Hum Kahan Movie Review

What Works For The Film:

'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan' starts on a heartwarming note, showcasing the deep bond between our three protagonists. These characters are supposed to be childhood friends and their bond has been shown in an organic manner in the movie. With three completely different personalities, the characters Ahana, Imaad and Neil portray the urban youth and their loneliness, trauma and inner dilemma with perfection.

There is a sense of calmness in the way the movie has been shot, despite the chaos in the lives of our characters. Ananya Panday plays the role of Ahana Singh, who has been going through a heartbreak after her long-term relationship comes to an end. Her anxious behaviour and her constant need for social media validation and closure have been showcased in a beautiful manner. Ahana becomes the most relatable character in 'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan' and her role has been written with depth.

Imaad and Neil, played by Siddhant and Adarsh respectively, display the need for intimacy and belongingness in a world where individuals are running from it. Imaad's character showcases how a traumatic event can shape one's perspective of relationships, whereas, Neil shows the hatred one develops after the lack of support.

The music score and songs of 'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan' add more depth to the movie and will manage to stay with you.

What Does Not Work:

'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan' deals with complex characters but not everyone gets a complete arc. Unlike Ahana, Imaad and Neil don't get enough due in the movie and their ending seems to be rushed. Despite the movie's short runtime, certain scenes seem too long and might break your attention. The message of modern loneliness and social media dilemma does not seem to have much depth towards the end.

Performances:

Ananya Panday as Ahana is a delight to watch and gives her career-best performance in 'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan'. She portrays Ahana with much-required sincerity as her character is ambitious and smart but deals with her insecurities when going through heartbreak. The viewers watching Ananya can witness a little bit of Ahana inside them.

Siddhant is truly impressive as Imaad and beautiful showcases his distant behaviour yet someone who needs love and support. Imaad's character had much more scope in the movie but Siddhant still manages to a genuineness to the character.

Adarsh Gourav steals the show as Neil and his physical transformation is worth the praise. He perfectly represents the struggle of someone coming from a middle-class background and trying to make it big in the city. He completely gets immersed in his character, making you fall in love and sympathise with Neil. Kalki Koechlin adds more depth and layer to the storyline and gives an earnest performance.

Final Thoughts:

'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan' is a much-needed depiction of how social media and the want for its constant validation are affecting lives. Despite being connected online, the youth deals with loneliness and a lack of emotional intimacy. The movie does not force its message upon the viewers and portrays it with subtlety but its message lacks depth. 'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan' is a good one-time-watch film with sincere performances and good music but watch it without high expectations.
