Kiran Rao’s directorial Laapataa Ladies is making a new wave after its digital debut. The film received a lot of love from the audience and the critics during its theatrical release. Now it has also set a benchmark on the digital platform Netflix. Ravi Kishan starrer Laapataa Ladies is currently trending at the Number 1 position in the list of 'Top 10' trending Indian movies on Netflix. The film which stars Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastav, and Chhaya Kadam in pivotal roles, has created a buzz online. Renowned filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri also praised the film on his social media handle after its premiere on Netflix. 

Vivek took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote “What a beautiful, authentic and simple film is #LaapataaLadies. So rooted in desi ethos. Director @ikiranrao shines with nuanced storytelling, casting, locations and almost every single detail. Brilliant performances by @PratibhaRanta @nitanshi_goel and outstanding Sparsh Shrivastava and everyone else. @ravikishann surprises as usual with his powerful performance. Powerful yet simple dialogues: “थाना में समस्या बताओ, हैसियत नहीं।” “बुडबर्क होना शर्म का बात नहीं है, बुडबर्क होने पे गर्व करना शर्म का बात है।” “गुमनामी से ज़्यादा बदनामी का डर?” “क्या कला फ़िज़ूल है?” Must watch for those who also like cinema without spectacle.”

The film is also maintaining an excellent pace in theatres. Jio Studios and Aamir Khan Productions backed Laapataa Ladies is a comedy-drama that highlights the situation of Indian women in the early 2000s. The story revolves around two married women who get separated from their husbands after their marriage. Notably, the movie’s script is based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. Sneha Desai has written the screenplay and dialogue for the movie and Divyanidhi Sharma has also jotted down additional dialogue. This film also marks the comeback of Kiran Rao as a director after the 2010 film Dhobi Ghat. Additionally, Laapataa Ladies was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023.
