Faisal Malik, known for his role as Prahlad Cha (Phulera's Up-pradhan) in TVF's Panchayat Season 1-3, recently opened up about a pivotal moment in his career during a conversation with The Lallantop. Malik, who made his Bollywood debut with Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur, shared an intriguing story about how being honest cost him a significant opportunity involving the legendary Amitabh Bachchan.
Faisal Malik is earning accolades for his performance in Panchayat Season 3, where he stars alongside Jitendra Kumar, Raghuvir Yadav and Neena Gupta. Reflecting on his struggling days, he recounted an experience with Amitabh Bachchan that left a lasting impression on him.
Malik and Anurag Kashyap once visited Amitabh Bachchan to discuss a potential show. He was thrilled about the chance to meet the iconic actor. “I was half excited because I was getting to meet Bachchan sahab,” Faisal reminisced. Overwhelmed with excitement, he asked for an autograph as soon as he met the star. “The food kept coming at Big B’s house. You wouldn’t be able to finish one dish before they present a new one. I told him I am from Allahabad, and he talked to me. Then he asked if I would have til ke laddu (sesame laddus). I thought he wouldn’t be able to eat it because of his age. Sorry, I shouldn’t say this. But when the laddus arrived, he ate two before me. I thought he is lying about his age; he is still very much young.”
During their meeting, Malik was astonished by Bachchan's memory and attention to detail. “He remembered all 120 pages of the script. He didn’t even have to look at the script to point out the mistake,” Faisal recalled. When Bachchan asked for his opinion on the shooting schedule, Malik, in his candid nature, suggested postponing the shoot by six months. This honesty, however, backfired. “After we finished the meeting and stepped downstairs, I was told, ‘You don’t work on this project. You leave it,’ because I spoke the truth.”
Despite this setback, Faisal Malik's career has flourished. His work in Panchayat has garnered him widespread appreciation, and he continues to make a mark in the industry. In addition to Panchayat, he has also appeared in Dedh Bigha Zameen, which is streaming on Jio Cinemas.
