The new series "Race" on Disney+ Hotstar is an office drama that takes place in a PR company and presents a realistic portrayal of the work, lives, and challenges of regular employees, with characters that the audience can relate to.

The plot of the series focuses on Park Yoon-jo (played by Lee Yeon-hee) who secures a contract job on a PR team of a major corporation through a blind hiring process. After working in a smaller PR agency, Park finds herself caught up in a recruitment controversy and needs to demonstrate her competence to the company.

Ryu Jae-min, who is a close friend of Park and a top performer in the company, is portrayed by Hong Jong-hyun, while Moon So-ri plays the role of Goo Yi-jeong, an experienced PR specialist who joins the company as its COO. The character of Seo Dong-hoon, a young CEO of an advertising agency, is played by singer-actor Jung Yun-ho, who is popularly known as U-Know Yunho from the K-pop boy band TVXG.

Lee Dong-yun, the director of "Race," has previously directed popular dramas such as "Feast of the Gods" (2012) and "20th Century Boy and Girl" (2017). According to him, the drama aims to depict the contemporary workplace reality by showcasing various characters with different positions, ages, and work ethics.

"The title is not about a competitive race but about the race that each character runs at their own pace," Yonhap news agency quoted Lee as saying during an online press conference.

Lee Yeon-hee stated that she had studied the personal experiences of PR professionals by reading books related to the industry, in order to understand the people involved and to help her depict her character who struggles to succeed despite her disadvantaged background in the competitive workplace.

"The script well described the predicaments of office workers who are my age. I wanted to represent people who are living today," Lee said.

"Race" will premier on Disney+ Hotstar on May 10.
