'Oldboy' is one of the most popular South Korean movies of all time and has gained cult classic status among fans over the years. As the popularity of Korean cinema has reached overseas, fans can expect an English-language television series based on 'Oldboy'. Filmmaker Park Chan-Wook is reportedly working with Lionsgate Television to produce a TV series.
Talking about collaborating with Lionsgate Television, Park Chan-Wook said, "Lionsgate Television shares my creative vision for bringing Oldboy into the world of television. look forward to working with a studio whose brand stands for bold, original and risk-taking storytelling.”

This series adaptation of Oldboy will feature the raw emotional power, iconic fight scenes and visceral style that made the film a classic.”
'Oldboy' is loosely based on the Japanese manga and revolves around Oh Dae-su, who is imprisoned in a cell resembling a hotel room for 15 years and does not the identity of his captor or his captor's motives. After getting released, he finds himself stuck in lies and conspiracy.
Directed by Park Chan-Wook, the movie stars Choi Min-sik, Yoo Ji-tae, Kang Hye-jung, Ji Dae-han, Kim Byeong-ok, Yoon Jin-seo, Oh Dal-su and Oh Kwang-rok. The movie won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. It was unofficially adapted in Hindi in 2006 with the title 'Zinda', starring Sanjay Dutt, John Abraham, Lara Dutta and Celina Jaitly.
Park Chan-Wook last directed 'Decision To Leave', which was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and the filmmaker won the Best Director award. The movie was also selected as the South Korean entry for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards.
He has directed several blockbuster and cult classic movies including 'Joint Security Area', 'Lady Vengeance' and 'The Handmaiden'.
