The buzzcut seems to be becoming a rising trend among Kpop idols, with SEVENTEEN's Vernon being the latest to sport the bold look. His new hairstyle, revealed during the Philippine leg of their RIGHT HERE world tour, has sparked mixed reactions from fans. While some praised the fresh look, others expressed a preference for his usual hairstyle. The buzzcut has even led to speculation about a potential military enlistment, though it's becoming clear that this trend is not necessarily linked to mandatory service.
Vernon's buzzcut follows in the footsteps of Stray Kids' Hyunjin, who debuted a similar hairstyle last month during SBS's Gayo Daejeon 2024. Hyunjin's transformation left fans in awe, with many admiring his "lethal face card" and others missing his long locks. His buzzcut even helped him trend worldwide, making him the only Kpop idol to feature in the top 10 that day. Fans began speculating that this new look could spark a trend and now, Vernon’s decision to follow suit seems to be fueling this growing fascination with buzzcuts in the Kpop scene.

The trend also brings to mind other Kpop idols, like BTS members RM, Jin, Jhope, Jimin, V and Jungkook, who all underwent haircuts before their mandatory military enlistment. These buzzcuts are often a part of the process for idols preparing to serve in the military, but now, it seems that some idols are embracing the style ahead of time, without any connection to enlistment.

It’s clear that buzzcuts are becoming more than just a requirement for enlistment, but a fashion statement embraced by idols looking to make a bold change. As this trend continues to spread, fans are eager to see which other idols might take the plunge and sport a buzzcut, further cementing its place in Kpop fashion.
