L2 Empuraan: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a search at the L2 Empuraan producer and Kerala-based businessman Gokulam Gopalan’s offices, as per reports. The searches reportedly taken place at his offices in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and Kochi (Kerala) under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). According to a report by India Today, AM Gopalan, also known as Gokulam Gopalan, owns Sree Gokulam Chits, which has offices in several states of the country, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Puducherry, Maharashtra, New Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry and Haryana.
The Gokulam Group owner, Gopalan has been under the scanner of the ED since 2023. He has been interrogated several times in connection with the alleged case. Those who are unaware, Gopalan's business spans across several things such as chit funds, finance, movie production, sports and hospitality. Notably, Gopalan is one of the producers in Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer Malayalam movie L2 Empuraan, which released in March this year. Soon, the film was released on the 27th of last month, it came across several controversies. It came to light over a critique of right-wing politics and the covert mention of the Gujarat riots, as per reports. The controversy led to the trimming of several scenes in the movie. According to several reports, ED has clarified that the ongoing raid is not related to the film controversy. They also reportedly mentioned that the raid is only conducted due to FEMA violations.
Gokulam Gopalan was part of several promotional events of L2 Empuraan. He posted several pictures with team on its social media handles.
Coming back to L2 Empuraan, the film released in theatres on March 27 and is currently aiming to cross the Rs 90 crore mark in India. The action thriller movie received mixed reviews from the audience and the critics. The film is the sequel to the blockbuster 2019 Malayalam movie Lucifer.
