New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on Monday was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Breach Candy hospital after she complained of breathing difficulties. However, the veteran singer was later discharged from the hospital and is now recovering well.
" Lata Mangeshkar had chest infection so she was taken to Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai today. She is now back at her home and is recovering," news agency ANI quoted her team as saying.
Her niece Rachana Shah also said that the singer is recovering. "She was down with a viral infection. She is on the path to recovery," PTI quoted Shah as saying. Her younger sister Asha Bhosle met her during the day.
In her career spanning over seven decades, Lata has lent voice to thousands of songs in 1,000 Hindi films as well as in various regional and foreign languages. This year Mangeshkar recorded her last song, "Saugandh mujhe is mitti ki" -- released on March 30 as a tribute to the Indian Army.
Her most iconic patriotic composition is 'Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo'. The song begins with the Indian soldiers who died in 1962 war with China. The solo was performed by her 1963 R-Day in Delhi in presence of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and President S Radhakrishnan.
Born in 1929, Mangeshkar is the eldest of five siblings. Her father was a classical musician Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar who taught her first music lesson. She started her journey as a playback singer in 1942 at an age of 13 with "Kiti Hasaal"-- a Marathi movie by Vasant Joglekar. Her first song to release was "Natali chaitraachi navalaai" from "Pahili Mangalaa-gaur". She also acted in the movie.
Mangeshkar received Bharat Ratna-- the highest civilian honour in India-- in 2001 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989.
Her last full album in 2004 was "Veer-Zaara" when she was 75.
