On Monday, the Madras High Court put a hold on the release of two highly anticipated and big-budget Tamil films, namely Thangalaan, starring Chiyaan Vikram, and Kanguva, featuring Suriya. A distinguished division bench of the high court, comprising Hon'ble Justices G Jayachandran and CV Karthikeyan, issued a binding directive to Studio Green, a prominent and influential production company led by the esteemed KE Gnanavelraja. The court's instruction necessitates that Studio Green deposits a substantial sum of INR 1 crore each for the two aforementioned films with the official assignee, a requirement that must be fulfilled on or before the stipulated deadline of Wednesday, August 14.
These directives were issued in response to an execution petition filed by the high court's official assignee, who has been entrusted with the critical task of recovering outstanding debts owed to the late insolvent businessman, Arjunlal Sunderdas. The official assignee's petition sought to ensure that the debts are recovered, and the court's orders represent a significant step towards achieving this objective.
By linking the release of the films to the deposit of substantial sums, the court has effectively ensured that the producers, Studio Green, take concrete steps to settle the outstanding debts, thereby upholding the interests of the creditors and the legal process.
