Popular Tamil actor and comedian Madhan Bob passed away on Saturday, August 2, at the age of 71. He had been battling cancer and breathed his last at his residence in Adyar, Chennai, as confirmed by sources close to the family. The legendary actor was known for his lively comic timing and expressive screen presence. Born as S. Krishnamoorthy, Madhan Bob made his film debut in the early 1980s and went on to build an impressive career spanning over 40 years. He became widely recognised in the 1990s and 2000s, appearing in over 200 films in mainly supporting and comedic roles. 

Following his demise, tributes began to flood social media. Actor Prabhudeva shared a heartfelt message on X which read, “We shared the screen, and his presence always brought joy to the set. Cheerful, kind, and full of humour he made everyone feel happy around him. Heartfelt condolences to his family. He’ll always be remembered ”

Madhan Bob’s Work

Madhan Bob starred in several iconic films including Neengal Kettavai (1984), Vaaname Ellai (1992), Thevar Magan, Sathi Leelavathi, Chandramukhi, Run, Varalaaru, Kaavalan, and Vasool Raja MBBS.  His signature style — bulging eyes, animated expressions, and quick-witted delivery — was inspired by veteran actor Kaka Radhakrishnan and helped him stand out in the industry. More recently, he was seen in films like Yaman Kattalai and Raayan. He had the opportunity to work alongside some of Tamil cinema’s biggest stars such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith Kumar, and Suriya.

Apart from movies, Madhan Bob was also a familiar face on television. He gained immense popularity as a judge on the comedy show Asathapovadhu Yaaru, where his honest feedback and hearty laugh made him a fan favourite. He also took part in many TV serials, further cementing his place in the hearts of audiences across generations.

Meanwhile, Madhan Bob started his artistic journey as a keyboard player, showcasing his musical side before turning to acting. He successfully brought together music and humour in many of his performances. He also appeared in two Malayalam films and a Hindi movie, proving his versatility across different languages.
