Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith Balakrishnan's arrest in relation to an attempted sexual assault case has shocked the entire Malayalam film industry. He was taken into custody from Idukki late on Tuesday and appeared in court the next morning. The court remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. The filmmaker claimed the allegations of sexual assault are 'false' and asserted his innocence.

Ranjith told the media that the charges against him were 'false' after being placed under custody. While being transported inside the Kochi sub-jail, he also assured the media that he would be able to prove his innocence in the matter. According to Ranjith's lawyer, they are getting ready to file a bail request in court.

The police complaint was filed with Kochi city police. The authorities responded quickly when the victim claimed that the filmmaker had sexually assaulted her after luring her into a caravan during a shoot. After being remanded, Ranjith was transferred to a sub-prison in Kochi. The videos of the director being escorted by police have been going viral on social media platforms.

Police, Kerala CM React

No woman should ever have to deal with such a situation, especially in the workplace, according to Kochi City Police Commissioner S Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar. Additionally, he emphasised that witnesses were present when the alleged event occurred, which could be important in determining the specifics of what transpired.

Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, said that while he does not yet have all the information on the case, the process appears to be going well thus far.

Malayalam Filmmaker Ranjith's Controversy

Ranjith's name has previously come up in relation to accusations of wrongdoing. The Justice K Hema Committee report, which looked into harassment and abuse in the Malayalam cinema industry, has already identified the director.

The industry was depicted in the study as one in which influential people frequently evade responsibility. Ranjith's name was mentioned as one of the incidents that generated anxiety and worry among people who worked there.

The case will probably continue to receive a lot of attention from the public and media as the investigations continue.
