Malayalam movie Vadakkan creates history: In a groundbreaking achievement, the Malayalam movie Vadakkan has made history by clinching the prestigious Best Supernatural Thriller award at the renowned Fright Night Film Festival in the United States. This victory marks the first time a Malayalam film has received this esteemed honor. Directed by Sajeed A, Vadakkan boasts an impressive cast, featuring Kishore and Sruthy Menon in leading roles. The film garnered widespread acclaim at the festival on the 28th of this month, with jurors and audiences alike praising its exceptional storytelling, superb cinematic quality, and masterful craftsmanship.
Ken Daniels, founder and director of the Fright Night Film Festival, heaped praise on Vadakkan, describing it as a mesmerizing, beautiful film that showcases "brilliant cinematography, incredibly strong performances, and a solid script." Daniels enthusiastically endorsed the film, urging the audience to experience it for themselves, saying, "Go see it!"
Recently, Vadakkan made its exclusive market premiere at the esteemed 2024 Cannes Film Festival's Marché du Film. The film was showcased in the Fantastic Pavilion, a prestigious segment dedicated to horror and fantasy genres, where it stood out among a curated selection of only seven films.
This achievement garnered attention from A-list celebrities, horror film aficionados, and industry experts alike, solidifying Vadakkan’s position as a standout title in the genre. Notably, the film was the sole Malayalam entry to receive this distinguished recognition at Cannes.
The film's success can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of renowned industry professionals, including Resul Pookkutty, Keiko Nakahara, Bijipal, and Unni R., who lent their expertise to bring Vadakkan to life.
